Farewell Dallas – Off to Memphis, TN

We have spent the first 4 days in the US in Dallas with our Texan family. We have eaten out at nice restaurants, played a little 3 on 3 USA v Australia basketball, had several family dinners, a bulk birthday party for 4 of the family, including Sarah, and of course some shopping.

All the girls had fun making hats for the Kentucky Derby, ‘America’s Greatest Race’, a very similar spectacle to the Melbourne Cup, but they run on a dirt track over 1 ¼ miles. It poured rain during the National Anthem, so all the horses were covered in mud at the end. Unfortunately no one backed a winner.

We have adjusted to the time zone and are now ready to commence the first leg of our East Coast Swing – 727km/452mi from Frisco, TX to Memphis, TN – about 6.5 hours drive away.
Today we are also celebrating Sarah’s 15th birthday, and due to the time difference she has claimed the whole weekend and will celebrate in 3 US states. She has requested her birthday lunch at one of our favourite places to eat, Cracker Barrel

Tomorrow morning we plan to visit Graceland before heading to Atlanta, GA.
