5th Avenue and Beyond

After arriving into NY’s LaGuardia Airport, we were driven into Manhattan to check in to our hotel a stone’s throw away from Madison Square Garden.

We headed immediately out and walked north up 7th Avenue towards Times Square to take in the sights and sounds.

On Wednesday morning we set out on a day walking, taking in most of what Fifth Avenue had to offer as well as walking through Central Park.  Our first stop was the New York Public Library which is an amazing building completed in around 1910.

After the library, we ventured off 5th Avenue and walked through Grand Central Terminal

We then headed further north and into Central Park.  We walked up the Mall and then to the famous Bethesda Terrace and Fountain.

We continued further north to the Belvedere Castle, built in 1869.  It was in a great high spot in the park and had terrific views in all directions.  Once we finished there, we turned around and headed south out of Central Park and back to 5th Avenue.

On our way back we stopped in to check out St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

After the cathedral, we walked over to the Rockefeller Center to head to the observation deck at the top, called ‘Top of the Rock’.

From up here, you enjoy magnificent views of Central Park and beyond as well as lower Manhattan to include the Empire State Building, the new One World Trade Center building and off in the distance, the Statue of Liberty.

Along 5th Avenue, we visited many stores including Tiffany, NBA store, Lindt, Cartier, Saks, and many others.  It was a terrific day with lots of distance travelled, and in beautiful conditions, as New York reached a maximum temperature of 29 degrees (85F).

It all sounds fantastic. A lot of walking but you see so much that way. The weather looks great. Did you spend much at the shops. Need more suitcases…….

Are you feeling sorry it is coming to an end or are you looking forward to seeing Me…
I know we are looking forward to seeing you all.
